ABBREVIATIONS AND DEFINITIONS

administrators (of the IC): The President, Treasurer, and Executive Secretary of the IC

Breiðabólstaður: The property of the IC in Ölfus municipality. On the property are buildings that were run as Hlíðardalsskóli and Breiðabólstaður farm

church: One local congregation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Icelandic Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church consists of five local churches. The churches are usually referred to by their location: Árnes (Selfoss), Hafnarfjörður, Keflavík, Reykjavík, and Vestmannaeyjar. There is a church building in Akureyri but the congregation meeting there does not (as of yet) have the status of a church and therefore those church members belong to the Conference Church

church board: The administration of a church

EXCOM: The Executive Committee of the Icelandic Conference

GCAS: General Conference Auditing Service

General Conference: The highest administrational level of the global Seventh-day Adventist Church

Conference Church members: Church members who live where there is no official church belong to the so-called Conference Church, i.e., the EXCOM functions as their church board

Hlíðardalsskóli: Boarding school on a secondary level which the IC operated on the Breiðabólstaður property from 1950 to 1995

IC: The Icelandic Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Icelandic Conference: Adventists in Iceland belong to a so-called Conference which is an administrational unit within the global denomination of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

ISK: Icelandic króna, the currency of Iceland

Kirkjufréttir: The official weekly newsletter of the IC

NIV: The New International Version (a Bible translation)

offerings: Donations which church members give to the IC

Samantektin: An independent newsletter for Icelandic Adventists, published several times a year since May 2020. Editors are Jón Hjörleifur Stefánsson (the author of the present report) and Elísa Elíasdóttir

Session: The election meeting of the IC, convened every three (now four) years. Each church chooses delegates to attend the meeting

Seventh-day Adventist Church: The denomination as a global whole and not only its Icelandic organization

TED: The Trans-European Division

Trans-European Division: The administrational unit to which the Icelandic Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church belongs
